Nearly 10,000 people have been displaced in the Batticaloa district as a result of the recent escalation of violence, officials said. 104900 persons of 28951 families are currently in refugee camps in Batticaloa with the arrival of 9989 within 24 hours since Thurday night, according to official estimates. The Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are still moving and the real number is higher than the official records, officials admitted. "All my neighbours ran away from our village at about 0100am (SLT),"said an IDP who arrived in Batticaloa on Friday. "I went back to my village at dawn but no body was there" added the villagers. A refugee woman said that it is not possible to live in the area as nothing left in the village. Another refugee who came to Pudukudiruppu said she saw a boy with injuries caused by shell explosion. "His father was carrying him on a bicycle,"said the woman. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
