Jayalalitha slams Karunanidhi
Jayalalitha with Indian PM
Jayalalitha called on the central government to intervene
The former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has strongly criticised the State government for not taking adequate measures to prevent arms smuugling to Sri Lanka's militants.

In a statement issued to the media, the former CM and the head of AIADMK, Jayalalithaa, has described current Chef Minister as "inept".

M Karunanidhi has failed to instruct the police on taking steps to prevent the state from being converted into an arms go down of Sri Lankan Tamil militants, she says.

Police 'support terrorists'

The former CM Jayalalithaa has demanded that the Central government intervene in the interests of the nation's security.

She has also accused the state police of encouraging terrorist activities and said she was sorry to note that Karunanidhi was not in a position to understand this and act.

Referring to the seizure of a boat laden with arms and ammunition by the Indian Coast Guard earlier this month and confiscation of other explosive raw materials, Jayalalitha says it was only the 'tip of the iceberg".

Tip of the iceberg

"Similar illegal activities were going on", in several other places of the State, she alleges.

A suspected LTTE boat carrying arms and ammunition was seized by the Coast Guard on February 14 and another boat carrying 4,000 kg of ammunition was seized near Dhanushkodi on February 15, she said.

The General Secretary of the AIADMK said several islets in the Palk Straits on the Indian side, close to Rameswaram, were being "utilised by terrorists to hide arms and ammunition".
