Three killed in Batticaloa and school children sustained injuries in Jaffna
A claymore mine explosion in eastern Sri Lanka has claimed three lives, including a policeman, and injured 16 others.

Two civilians are among the dead in the blast, police said.

Journalists say two Sri Lanka Army personnel and four policemen are among the injured.

Sri Lankan defence authorities have accused the Tamil Tigers of targeting police personnel at Oddamawaddi, near Valaichenai, in Batticaloa District.

In Jaffna, four school children and a tutor have sustained injuries as alleged LTTE cadres lobbed a hand grenade at a tuition class, defence ministry said.

Jaffna police have begun investigations as the injured school children were rushed to Jaffna hospital.

There was no immediate response from the Tamil Tigers.
