He also says that Muslims in these villages are worried that offices of Karuna faction are situated near security forces camps.

SLMC leader, Hakeem said he told parliament that police did not take action against villagers' complaints that Karuna faction was involved in crimes taking place in their areas.

He said activates of the Karuna faction had influenced to a considerable extent the unsettled situation at Ariampathy,Palamunai and Karbala in Kathankudi.

Hakeem said he told parliament that police and special task force personnel should take action to control such movements in the area rather than allowing Karuna faction to intervene.

Asked how and on what ground he challenged Karuna faction, SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem said people in the area know about the activities carried out within their political offices which are situated near STF and police stations.

When asked why he did not complain to the inspector general of police about it, Hakeem said there was no need and all high ranking officials in the area were fully aware of what is going on in these areas.

Reacting to SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem's accusations, the spokesman for Karuna group, Azad Moulana said that there was no basis for these allegations.

He said Hakeem was referring to a land controversy in Ariampathy and had levelled charges against them on that issue.

Moulana said soon after the issue broke out, they called both Tamil and Muslim representatives and held many rounds of talks.

The issue was amicably settled, Moulana said.

"Leaders who are involved in politics do these for their own political gains", Karuna faction spokesman, Azad Moulana added.
