Police in Sri Lanka have handed over a teenage girl who says escaped from the Tamil Tigers to child probation authorities. Yoganathan Suganthani, 15, has told Aralaganwila police that she had to run through a hard jungle to escape the LTTE camp where she was kept. The LTTE abducted her as she was going to visit relatives, Suganthani has told the police. The girl alleged that the camp, in an undisclosed location in Batticaloa district, was run by a woman called 'Amudha'. Guarding bunkers There were about 15 other girls in the camp and she was forced to guard the bunkers at night, Suganthani has told the police. At the time of the abduction she was studying at Mattavalichchena school. There was no immediate response from the LTTE. United Nations and international human rights organisations have continuously accused Tamil Tigers of abducting children and recruiting them as child soldiers. The LTTE has denied recruiting child soldiers. But they have released some children who they say were kept with the LTTE for their safety. | LOCAL LINKS Tigers abduct 23 school children19 December, 2006 | Sandeshaya "Stop aiding child recruitment" says Human Rights Watch28 November, 2006 | Sandeshaya President blasts LTTE at UN20 September, 2006 | Sandeshaya Karuna in child soldier recruitment-UN 22 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya Tamil Tigers 'draft child troops'Sandeshaya | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
