Jaffna bus station 'removed by SLA'
Jaffna residents have faced with enormous difficulties as a result of the removal of the central bus station in the Jaffna town.

An official of the Jaffna Sri Lanka Transport Board said this sudden decision by the authorities have jeopardised public transport system and put people in difficulties.

He said about twenty Sri Lanka soldiers arrived at the central bus station without any prior notice and ordered to close down it and also ordered the bus station to be removed to Muththuweli area.

There is no enough space in the new location to accommodate the central bus station and there are no facilities for the staff which arenow available in the Jaffna bus station.

There is a major bus garage here and now such facilities are at bay, said the official.

As a result depot authorities said they are able to run only forty school buses and have to cancel rest of the services.

The army has also ordered workers who were engaged in construction work of the central bus station to leave. The bus station is being rebuilt at a cost of 6.3 million rupees, the official said.

The army camps and Jaffna and Palali were not able to give a clarification when enquires were made to ascertain as to why the bus station was relocated, offcial said.
