Mangala meets Indian leaders
Samaraweera with Manmohan Singh
FM has sought Indian support to the SL candidacy to the UN top post
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera is in Delhi to discuss the peace process with Tamil Tiger rebels and security situation in Sri Lanka with the Indian leaders.

The minister has explained to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the reasons for air raids on Tamil Tiger camps in Trincomalee, journalists said.

Samaraweera called on Anand Sharma, junior minister for external affairs and discussed economic and political bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka, according to a statement issued by Indian Foreign Ministry statement.

Sri Lankan FM briefed Anand Sharma on the current status of the peace process in Sri Lanka. The Indian minister has expressed the hope that the parties would resume talks at the earliest.

Mangala Samaraweera also sought India's support for the candidature of Jayanta Dhanapala for the post of the UN Secretary General, the statement added.
