A Task force has been appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksha to ensure the provision of essential services to the people of the Trincomalee District including Sampur area. The Task Force will be chaired by the Governor of Trincomalee, Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama. Speaking to Sandeshaya Government Agent, Trincomalee, K.G.Leelananda who is a member of the task force said that every effort is been made to provide relief for the displaced in Sampur and other areas of Trincomalee. “We have still not been able to establish a link with the LTTE but as soon as our officers in the rebel controlled areas provide us with information we are ready to act"said Leelananda About 12,000 have fled their homes in fear of air raids and another 3,000 have been displaced due to the recent violence in Trincomalee said the government agent. The Task Force has been allocated Rupees 100 million and it will ensure that those displaced are speedily returned to their homes says the presidents office. The save the children's organization says that it has taken steps to reach out to the displaced in Trincomalee. In a communiqué it says that the organization is now mobilizing to provide packs for 2,000 families.
