The turn out at the local government elections has been relatively low. According to the elections commissioner’s office the estimated turn out island wide is around 55 percent A number of voters who spoke to local reporters said that they had lost confidence in their representatives and kept away from casting their vote. In Trincomalee there was a relatively high turn over of voters.
