JVP is the best party to implement "Mahinda Chintana", says Tivin silva

The Janatha Vimukthi Permuna (JVP) said the voters are fed up with the policies of the two main political parties, including that of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said it was wrong to assume that the ruling party in Sri Lanka should also be elected to local bodies.

Election violence

The coalition led by SLFP, United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA), is urging the voters to hand over power “of the village” to those who are already running the country.

But the JVP disagrees.

“Everybody knows that Mr. Rajapaksa won mainly because of our support. If the power in the local government bodies should be given to those who won the presidential elections, logically they should support the JVP,” Tilva Silva said.

The JVP is the best party to implement “Mahinda Chintana” policy programme introduced for the November 17 elections, he told journalists in Colombo.

The party also accused the supporters of UPFA and the opposition United National Party (UNP) of assaulting their supporters.

The JVP supported Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidential election campaign but did not join his new government.

The party however supports the government while sitting in the opposition in the parliament.

Local government elections are scheduled to be held on 30 March.
