The UNP faced another major setback when its nominations for the Colombo municipal council were rejected. Returning Officer Mahinda Deshapriya ruled that as there was an under aged candidate in the list and this was not in compliance with the election law. Sirisena Cooray, Mayoral candidate of the rejected list said that he believed this was a genuine mistake and ruled out sabotage. N.V. K.Veragoada, General Secretary of the UNP said that this is only a mishap. “There is no reason for our supporters to loose faith in us’’ said Veragoada The United Peoples Freedom Alliance candidate Wasudeva Nanayakara said its time to end the rightist UNP rule of the Colombo Muncipal council. Meanwhile the UNP list filed for the Seethawaka town council was also rejected. In Gampaha the SLFP list was rejected for having an underaged candidate on its list.
