Jathika Hela Urumaya(JHU) has formally announced its support for Mahinda Rajapakse, SLFP candidate for presidential elections. The national organiser, Patali Champika Ranawaka told media on Wednesday that the forthcoming presidential election is a referendum against the proposed federalism in the country. He said that they have decided to support the candidate who does not approve the recommendations of the Oslo agreement - the federal system, self- determinations by the Tamil people and homeland concept. "If possible win these elections”, he challenged the USA, Norway, the western world and Tamil nationalism. The Parliamentary group leader of the JHU, the Ven.Athureliye Ratana thero said that the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has come to level that JHU could agree on politically. "We have decided to support him on this ground but if PM goes beyond that JHU will field an independent candidate", the thero said. |
