JVP has protested over the possible resumption of talks on ceasefire agreement between the government and the LTTE.

A communiqué issued by the JVP politburo accused the government for not taking active measures to disarm the LTTE and not standing against the LTTE.

The JVP hailed the late Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar as the best foreign minister Sri Lanka ever had and condemned the brutal killing.

“Assassination of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar unveils the true picture of the so called cease fire agreement” says the communiqué.

It argues that “it is not the time to restart talks; it is time to move to a path against the LTTE and amass the international and local support against LTTE terrorism.” JVP said.

Dr. Jayadeva Uyangoda, speaking Sandeshaya said that the entering into talks alone is an important breakthrough.

“There has been a deadlock in dialogue between LTTE and the Government for sometime. There were increased number of cease fire violations and Foreign Minister Kadiragamar's Assassination has marked the culmination.

“When we consider the present situation, it is a significant breakthrough to move forward to recommence the stalled peace talks” added Dr. Uyangoda.

Dr.Uyangoda expects that the parties will use these talks to review the terms of the cease fire agreement for its betterment.
