Assassinated SSP Charles Wijewardena

Jaffna police said that the main suspect of this killing, 'Gobi' was arrested on Wednesday and now being questioned.

At the time of the arrest, the police were attacked by the LTTE cadres who were hiding in a house, police said.

Police seargent, Thillkeratne, was airlifted to Colombo General Hospital with serious injuries. The other policeman is being treated at Palali army hospital.

SSP, Jaffna Charles Wijewardena was kidnapped and killed in Jaffna while he was travelling to Inuvil to investigate a shooting incident on the 4th of August.

SSP Wijewardena was travelling to Inuvil in Jaffna to investigate an incident in a barbor saloon where one person injured in gun shot injuries died later in hospital.

Attack at EPDP Office

Meanwhile, the EPDP office in the Jaffna town was attacked on Wednesday.

In this hand grenade attack one person who was at the EPDP office was injured, police said.
