PM should answer queries - UNP
PM mahinda rajapakse and President Kumaratunge
Govt. accused of 'Helping Hambantota Fund'
United National Party (UNP) accusing the government says the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse is answerable for the unauthorised 'Helping Hambantoda Fund'.

UNP last week lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against the prime minister accusing he has opened a private account with the funds obtained from tsunami aid.

UNP's MP, Mahinda Wijesekera said cabinet has not approved this controversial fund initiated by the prime minister.

Prime Minister has promised to debit all the money received as tsunami aid to the tsunami relief fund with the Central Bank.

"However, the fund has already been used though the Prime Minister has no right to do so.", he said.

UNP's MP, Rajitha Senaratane challenged the prime minister to come before the public and prove his innocence.

UNP's Hambantota district MP, Sajith Premadasa said he has had no connection with the controversial ‘Helping Hambantota Fund'.

Sandesaya Colombo correspondent Elmo Fernando contacted the Prime Minister's secretary, Lalith Weeratunge for reactions. In response, he said, he would not comment until he gave a statement to the CID.
