Come back and join - President
President with Prime Minisrter and JVP minister
President calls upon JVP to re-join to serve people
President Chandrika Kumaratunge extending her hands to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna invited them to join the government.

"Do not let the government fall into the destructive hands of the UNP. Forget the foolish decision you have made and come back for the benefit of the people", she said in a televised interview.

She said the government will not act in such a way that the rights of the Sinhala Buddhist people are affected.

Neither will it let harm the rights of other communities nor their religions, President said.

President said that though her government has turned to a minority after the withdrawal of JVP there is no impending threat to its existence.

"The government is stable. We are just short of 20 or 30 votes in parliament but that will not be a problem for the government. We have got a mandate from the people and we will continue to serve them", President said.

The president said presidential elections will be held next year.

Adding that the people are disappointed over party politics in the country, president alarmed the possibility of a military government or a rule led by an autocrat.
