Defeat for nationalists - NLF | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dr.Vickremabahu Karunaratne of the New Left Front says that the capitalist rulers have not bowed down for the first time in the history of the country to the tunes of nationalists. "This is a victorious moment and we will support to carry this victory forward", he told Sandesaya.
He said that President Chandrika Kumaratunge would find no immediate problem in implementing the Joint Mechanism as there is a majority of backing in parliament for it. However, he said, she would face difficult situtations before a many social and economical issues in the future. Even at this time UNP's only concern is the presidential elections and nothing else, he said. If Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse had thoughts of contesting the presidential elections with the vote of the nationalists, Karunaratne of the New Left Front said it would have been a tragic end. "We will support the tsunami relief programme but would agitate against the government on other burning issues faced by the people.", he said. |
