We protect UPFA policies - JVP
JVP leader Somawansa Amerasinghe
"We want to make presidents hands strong"
The leader of the Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna(JVP), Somawansa Amerasinghe on Tuesday vowed to protect policies of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government.

"We will not breach UPFA policies and we have no right to do that", JVP leader told a public rally they summoned in Colombo.

He said UPFA government was formed against United National Party (UNP) government's policies which underlined the division of the country and plans to sell country's resources.

JVP decided to hold a public rally after one year of UPFA government in order to put the government in the correct path and to denounce United National Party's misconception that there are serious issues within the government to be resolved, he added.

"President should listen to us, the JVP. Our efforts is not to break the government or weaken the president. Instead we want to make president's hands strong", JVP leader Amerasinghe said.

He said President should not bow down to the requests by foreign powers to implement a 'Tsunami Joint Mechanism' as there is no need for a separate programme for it.

There is a very practical reality we should meet; for that they need an administration by which those affected will be put into move
NLF

Meanwhile, New Left Front (NLF) in a news conference emphasised that the government has to move foreward with the 'Joint Mechanism' in order to provide relief to tsunami affected people in the south, north and east.

General Secretary of the New Left Front, Lenus Jayatilake said there is a real need to help farmers, fishermen and others who are the backbone of the country.

"The political debate about the north is not what matters; there is a very practical reality we should meet; for that they need an administration by which those affected will be put into move", he added.
