Governor of Western Province,Alavi Mowlana has suspended the functions of the Western Provincial Council (WPC) till May 17th. "This is to give time to the Chief Minister, Reginald Cooray to answer the accusations levelled against him. Majority of the members have also asked me to do so", he said. The United National Party(UNP) has presented a no-confidence motion against Reginald Cooray with11 charges including corruption. Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has said that it will abstain from voting when the no-confidence motion is taken up for debate. It was scheduled to be debated on Tuesday. The Western Provincial Council (WPC) is consisted of 104-members with 59 UPFA councillors (SLFP 36and JVP 23), the United National Party (UNP) 39 , Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) 4, Western Province Peoples Front (WPPF) 1 and Democratic United Front (DUA) 1. |
