Tigers will not get vast powers
The Tamil tigers will not be conferred any powers that are not relevant to Tsunami reconstruction said Foreign Minister Laxman Kadiragamar.

Addressing a press conference convened to out line the progress of government Tsunami rehabilitation work the foreign minister admitted that the government has not yet been able to arrive at an agreement with Tamil Tigers on how rehabilitation should be conducted in rebel held areas.
Kadiragamar said “the country can be rest assured that there will be no question of an agreement be signed which sells out to the LTTE in the sense of vast powers”

The Foreign Minister said that the proposed aid mechanism would not have any legislative, executive or political authority.

Media Bias

Finance Minister Sarath Amnugama said that irresponsible journalism has failed to recognise steady progress made by the government in Tsunami rehabilitation.

He said that new projects such as a new road running from Negambo to Baticalo skirting the costal belt and reconstruction of the Mahamodara hospital in the south that was washed out by the Tsunami have been ignored by the media.

Amunugama said that while the media over looks what the government has achieved Colombo based reporters further distort the picture by highlighting minor failures of the government.
