Dissnayake requested courts to remove his foreign travel ban
The courts in Colombo ordered the police to provide detailed evidence in order to arrest Parliamentarian SB Dissanayake.

Responding to a query by magistrate Kusala Abeywardhana the police said that the AG had advised them to further investigate corruption charges related to misappropriation of Samurdhi funds.

The officers added that the accused will be arrested after seeking advice from the AG.


Foreign travel ban

The main accused United National Party (UNP) stalwart SB Dissnayake appearing before the magistrate requested to remove the ban imposed on his foreign travels.

The magistrate refused to allow the request saying if the parliamentarian needs to travel abroad he just needs to seek the permission of judiciary.

Specific request by the former minister to be away from from Sri Lanka from the 27 November was granted on a rupees Two million bail.

"Fabrication"

Addressing a media conference last week, SB Dissanayake said the accusations that he had misappropriated "Samurdhi" funds are fabricated. "Let them bring in the charges against me. I can assure you, I will be exonerated."

Approximately rupees three million had been allocated for two projects by then Samurdhi Affairs minister SB Dissanayake on the request of Women's Affairs minister Amara Piyaseeli Rathnayake.

Investigating police officers told the courts that there were no such projects in the relevant areas.
