Former TNA MP shot dead
Former Batticaloa district parliamentarian Kingsley Rasanayagam was shot dead Tuesday evening in Batticaloa.

Rasanayagam was elected as a member of parliament during the last general elections on Tamil National Alliance’s (TNA) ticket.

He was allegedly asked to resign from the seat by the Tamil Tigers though he insisted the resignation was due to personal reasons.

He was reported to be a strong ally of the renegade LTTE commander V. Muralitharan alias Karuna.

Rasanayagam was given police security even after the resignation.

His security guard, police constable Hemantha Dissanayake was also injured in the shooting and taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, another LTTE supporter was shot dead at Iyankerny during early hours of Tuesday at Eravur in the Batticaloa District.

Tamil Tigers have made a complaint to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) saying that three of their supporters have been killed in Batticaloa since last Sunday.
