Ealam People's Democratic Party accuses Tigers behind the shooting of its senior cadre in Puttalam. Another senior member of the EPDP was gunned down today Saturday morning. Tambithurai Sivakumaran (43) was shot at close range while he was on his way home with his daughter. The incident took place at Ratmal Yaya of Puttalam District, Northwest of Sri Lanka. Tambithurai, father of three children was the co-organisers for Jaffna District and the organiser for Puttalam District for the EPDP. He was the petitioner who challenged alleged vote rigging in the north-east province supposedly carried out by the Tamil National Alliance in connivance with the LTTE. The EPDP claims that LTTE was longing to get him since he filed the petition. Minister Devananda the Leader of EPDP said to Sandeshaya that the LTTE leader is not looking for ‘peace’ but a ‘piece’ of land to continue with his reign of terror. Referring to his resent meeting with the Norwegian peace envoy Eric Solheim, the minister emphasised the need for the international community to take positive steps to end these brutal killings carried out by Tamil Tigers. Minister Devananda added “I told Solheim that, there is no use of talking to puppets like Thamilchelvan, the matter has to be dealt with Prabakaran himself”. Minister Devananda who has survived several assassination attempts revealed that LTTE threats to his life have severely restricted his political and social activities. He further said that he is still willing to talk with the LTTE in order to find a political solution to the ethnic problem. |
