Dear Prime Minister
Following is a selection of your comments to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse.

Please note that the Q&A session with the PM is now ended. We are still waiting for the answers to later batches of your questions.

With respect to the Prime minister I think he need to give his exact opinion. He had been enjoying maintainig a neutral approach to many national issues such as the Peace process and such related issues like the Join Mechanism. As the presidential Candidate I think he should express his opinion; because, in an unlikely event of him being the president he should express what his strategies are.
Prasanna de Silva, Galle, Sri Lanka

I was glad to read that Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse has been chosen by his party as the candidate for the next Presidential elections. I met with the PM on 27 Dec. 2004 in Colombo to advise him & his Cabinet on post-Tsunami measures, as I work with the Tsunami Program at UNESCO, Paris since 20 yrs. I was quite impressed by the man, as he has the ability to listen, which is rare in politicians, who mostly rant & rave on what they are going to do. I firmly believe that Mr. Rajapakse will be an asset to Sri Lankan politics & will bring harmony amongst the different communities.
Adrien Vannier, France

The aids and the money sent to Sri Lanka is still in government coffers.SomeI believe is in the pockets of government ministers and rich peoples bank accounts.Sri Lankan politicians are so corrupted and dishonoust from top to bottom I do not think the money and other things sent there ever will get to the needy.I am ashamed to say Im Sri Lankan.
Sujeewa Perera, London

Dear Sir, you guys are doing great job. Most innocent people want peace in the country. Please make decision only for peace not for politics. I would like to see Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people living peacefully. We had enough violence in this country. We do not want another war.
Kumar, Australia

Hon PM, each day I read in the news there is a killing or an attempted assassination of an LTTE officer or sympathizer throughout the country. The ceasefire is on, but if you add up the number of these incidents, its very disturbing to the stability of a country and the path to peace. If SL hopes to improve it's image in human rights, one needs to understand every life lost matters, that be Tamil or Sinhalese, and each human life lost should be treated with respect.
Jadhu Nadarajah, Toronto, Canada

I have waited for almost 50 years for a settlement of the ethnic crises in Ceylon. A reminder that if Ceylon transforms into a peaceful country, it will have a ripple effect leading to an economic boom. Ceylon used to be a paradise compared to India and it can revert back to it if the civil strife is settled. Be reminded that as soon as it is settled, the US will indeed realise that it is a peaceful country and will start outsourcing various manufacturing enterprises to your country.
Maheswaran Samuel, USA

The only reason I beleive that the LTTE are 'cooperating' for the first time in the distribution of aid is because they can negotiate substantial amounts of money for themseleves so they can empower themselves even more. The government should be careful and ensure they do not get bitten once again by them.
Mena, Sydney, Australia

Sir, Bravo, and start the peace talks as soon as possible.
Eardley Gomes, Paris, France

If as a nation we can't agree on sharing money to build the country from a tragedy like tsunami, how can we expect to get along on a good day?
Anonymous, Jaffna, Sri Lanka

I fear grave concern for the future of Sri Lanka regarding many issues but in particular, the fact that the LTTE is to have air routes in the north /east of Sri Lanka. It may not be long before they possibly abuse this power and use it to the detriment of innocent civilians in Sri Lanka. PM please ensure that the LTTE do not abuse the peace process to empower themselves.
Sian, Australia

I think the government of Sri Lanka was brave enough to go ahead with signing ot the P-Toms.They should also now be brave enough to take a stand and ask all religious clergy to stay away from politics and preach ahimsha and peace amongst all the peoples of Sri Lanka, without inciting hatred and violent confrontation.
Ranjith Fernando, Toronto, Canada

The PM has done an excellent job so far - it is sad that throughout Sri Lankas history there has been no support for a man who puts country before self.Mahinda Rajapakse is one and so too is Ranil Wicremasinghe - forget the UNP and the SLFP - both parties have more than a fair share of thieves - these two individuals could and should work jointly towards settling all the wrong that has taken place since Independence.
Krishan Jayachandra, USA

I do not believe that handing over money to the LTTE will solve the problem of ensuring equal distribution to the Tamil people. Has the Sri Lankan government considered the possibility that the LTTE will use such funds to empower themselves and kill innocent civilians both Tamil and Sinhalese. The government should create one umbrella for the distribution of funds for all people effected.
Krish, Sydney, Australia

You seem a wonderful communicater evey level of citizen of Srilankan,I hope one day u wil be next leader.
Paul Vivian, Northwood, UK

We are saddened to see the increased poverty each year when we visit. cannot the politicians see the suffering of the people ? Its far from being a Buddhist country.
Lalanthika, Budapest, Hungary

Why don't we go in for a Federal form of system like in India and the LTTE can choose its own Federal Minister for the North and East. This should stop all the fighting and misunderstandings between government and LTTE. The LTTE can in combination with the Muslims in the East run a Federal system in the East.
Seyad Farook Mohammed, Oman

I think you like many politicians, you are just saying things with no action.
Sachin Gunawardana, Johannesburg, South Africa

When are all the politicians going to stop paying lip service and give true answers. As a Sinhalese person with many Tamil cousins, I am disappointed in how the UPFA has managed the economy and politics of the country. Everything is messed up.
Rowen Rupasinghe, Durban, South Africa

from the bengining, sri lankan politicians used to give lots of promises which the couldn't achive.your government is one of them. when are we get rid of these disgusting political culture?
Parveen Fernando, London, UK

I am a sinhalease, I have a simple question for you PM, why should Tamils believe in you, do you believe that Prabaharan and Tamil community wiil see you differently to other politicians.
Jay Gunathilaka, Australia

Srilankan PM is living in a dream world.
Mohan

Dear president, A person like Prabakaran would never change his ways and turn back to democracy. He is a seperatist. He will always seek for methods to strengthen the LTTE and fight the sinhala opression. His followers will always have an uncertain future without any perspectives, not realizing that they would never overcome the SL government. Can you forgive a person like prabakaran who has gone astray in his life and his terrorist organisation?? Lord Budhha said not to fight enemies but to love them. Do you have any stabil plans to overcome the LTTE by doing them good, in oder to reduce their criminal acts and produce somthing for coming generations.
Sunil Gunawardhana, Germany

Singhales,Tamils and Muslims are the citizens of a united Sri Lanka. Then, what is the problem sharing the Tsumani aid? Down with the extreamists, leaders like you must tell the people loudly what is the truth.
Thahir Lebbe, Kalmunai, Sri Lanka

The singhala people have always lived in peace and harmony with minorities in Sri Lanka. The LTTE terrorists should also learn to live in peace with others and stop these bloody massacres of innocent civilians.
Roshini de Silva, Sydney Australia

The Tamils can't trust the Sinhala Govt. anymore. Tamils have been let down several times by not implementing the agreements. The Joint mechanism will make sure that the Tsunami aid is fairly distributed.
Joseph Ratnasingham, Toronto, Canada

It does not matter who proposes a resolution to resolve the aftermath of the tsunami. What matters is that all of the protagonists should unite and work for the reconstruction of Sri Lanka and other areas damaged by the tsunami. May God Bless Sri Lanka.
Roberto Alvarez-Galloso, Miami, USA

You are doing a great job under a lot of pressure. Please keep up the good work.
Devi, Sydney, Australia

Hon PM I read with interest that all the websites say as if nothing is happening in Sri Lanka and it seem the tiger properganda is very strong so why dont you just try a good team of poople to counter their lies abroad I really think its the need of the hour.
Shaan Fernando

The Sri Lankan govt should not share money received as aid with the LTTE as it will not help the people who live in the North and East but would most likely be used to rearm themselves and kill a lot more innocent civilians in the years to come.
Kishan de Silva, Dubai, U.A.E

Dear sir, I am working for tesco in the UK. We collected about 1 million pounds for the sunami victims i would like to know whether the money we sent has been received to the appropriate people the people who need the money-like the poor and the needy. I think I am hearing the wrong news-saying that the money for the victims went to the hands of the rich people. I pray for the people in my country-tamil and the sinhalese and all the relegions people will live togehter as one-let there be peace in the country.
Pradeepa Senanayake, Cambridge, England

I am deeply depressed by the current situation in Sri Lanka. I do not understand why our educated politicians act more sensibly. Please my dear Prime Minister before it becomes too late unite with others and take necessary steps to establish peace. Please do not let innocent people to suffer by the misjudgements of politicians.
Sri Lankan, Riga, Latvia

Why don't we ask the monitoring mission to do all post-tsunami developments in the north? This open dispute is very bad for Sri lanka as we may miss out on other benifits such as debt relief.
Ajith Perera, London, UK

Singhales,Tamils and Muslims are the citizens of a united Sri Lanka. Then, what is the problem sharing the Tsumani aid? Down with the extreamists, leaders like you must tell the people loudly what is the truth. With great power follows great responsibility!
Thamba Rajeevan, Bergen, Norway

I congratulate you for the vision and the foresight shown in the process of JM and other related issues.
Anton Fernando, Dunedin, Newzealand

Since Sri Lanka is most strategic region on the INDIAN SEA, and it has to ehancem the infrastucture of the ports in Sri Lanka. To enhace the country portfolio, the main objective is to improve its infrastructure, such as airport, ports, railways & etc. Another way is to improve the its increase farming activity. There is a lot of comodity farming that can be implmented such as Palm oil. The goverment can setup a huge estate, where by more employment & income can be generated by both goverment and also the people. Pls look into this matter. IF Sri Lanka can upgrade its port by reducing it cycle time management with cheaper price compare to other countries in the indian sea, ships may more rely on Sri Lanka port than any other port.
Suresh Kumar Kandiah, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Congratulaions on your bravery and humanity for sharing the tsunami funds. We do not make peace with our friends but with our enemies.Besides you Religion and Language how can one tell the difference between a Tamil and You.The Tamil and you are linked by blood and history .Peace for a piece land is not a big price to pay to save your beautiful country and people.Peace be with you and your people.
