Bipasha Basu who was recently seen in EROS International's film noir, No Smoking, will be starring in a historical epic.

Titled Ashoka The Great, the film will be directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi and will also star Ajay Devgan. Bipasha will play the character of Kaurwaki.

The film will depict the great Kalinga war that emperor Ashoka himself started so as to spread the word of Mauryan Empire in the 3rd century BC.

But during the bloody battle that followed, Ashoka's outlook on life was transformed as he turned to Buddhism for peace.

Shooting for this epic which will take place in Malaysia and Thailand in 2008 is said to be completely different from Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer, Ashoka.
