One day, newlyweds, Siddharth (Shiny Ahuja) and Avni (Vidya Balan), the son and daughter-in-law of Badri's elder brother, return to their native village from America. Ignoring the protests of their superstitious uncle, they decide to spend their holiday in the mansion. But life takes a surprising turn when Avni opens a locked and forbidden room, unleashing a series of supernatural events. The blame comes to rest squarely on Radha (Amisha Patel), the adopted daughter of Badri. Meanwhile, Badri tries to ward off the evil by approaching several black magicians and ghost busters... but to no avail. So, Dr Aditya (Akshay Kumar), an American-based psychiatrist and a close friend of the couple, is called upon to investigate the goings on.  | The family portrait |
By using modern analytical techniques, Dr Aditya finds out the culprit behind these weird events and tries to solve the mystery. Bhool Bhulaiya is said to be a roller coaster ride of thrills, chills and humour. It's directed by Priyadarshan of Dhol (2007), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Chup Chup Ke (2006) and Malamaal Weekly (2006) fame. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan who recently appeared in Heyy Babyy and also Shiney Ahuja who starred opposite Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty in Metro. An EROS International release in UK cinemas, Bhool Bhulaiyaa is said to be the remake of the critically acclaimed 1993 Malayalam blockbuster, Manichitrathazhu which was also remade in Kannada (Aaptamitra) and Telugu (Chandramukhi).
