| In this Bollywood romance, six stories run in parallel with some of them converging towards the climax. Madly in love Hindu-Muslim couple, Ashutosh (John Abraham) and Tehzeeb (Vidya Balan) work for a news channel. But their blissful relationship is disturbed by a tragic accident. Rahul (Salman Khan) romances ambitious Bollywood dancer, Kkamini (Priyanka Chopra) to gain media fame. But with time he forces her to choose between him and stardom. Then, there is Raju, a taxi driver and a dreamer who is in love with Stephanie, an American tourist. But she returns to India in search of her lover. Raju helps her out but in the process they take a liking to each other. Meanwhile, London-based businessman, Vinay Malhotra (Anil Kapoor) leads a mundane life. He has a loving wife Seema (Juhi Chawla) and two children. At the moment, he is having a midlife crisis. So he decides to be naughty at 40 by romancing young Bollywood dancer Anjali (Anjana Sukhani). High society couple Shiven and Gia are engaged to be married but Shiven freaks out when he realises he is being tied down to a commitment. So he ditches Gia for his bachelor freedom The sixth tale involves a newly wedded couple (Sohail Khan and Ishaa Koppikar) who are unable to consummate their marriage . With a galaxy of stars, six stories and smart editing, Nikhil Advani proves that he can deliver a gripping romance. Whilst Ashutosh/Tehzeeb portrays the sensitivity of a delicate relationship, the Rahul/Kkamini track masterfully shows greed and ambition. Anil Kapoor's emotions and a sense of insecurity at 40 is effectively revealed whilst Akshay Khanna's insecure playboy character is a sheer delight to watch with some great comic moments. But it's Sohail Khan as the newly-wedded, frisky husband who brings the house down! His light hearted moments do bring a smile to your face. Overall, this Bollywood romance will win the hearts of the UK audience thanks to Nikhil's brilliant movie making. He has a novel way of showing six simultaneous frame shots at the same time on screen - a theme never witness in Hindi cinema to date. Musical score of Salaam E Ishq is a delight to listen with some great foot tapping numbers to give this movie a romantic feel. The only downside of the film is it's running time of 3hrs 36mins. This may not prove to be favourable with some fans but the movie is definitely worth a watch. Reviewed by Manish Gajjar BBC Bollywood Correspondent |
