Completely engrossed in his job, Mohan has no time for himself. So one day, after accomplishing his project, he becomes homesick. He starts remembering Kaveriamma, his childhood nanny. So Mohan decides to take a well deserved break by making a journey to India to trace the woman who brought him up. Soon, Mohan's trip turns into a journey of self realisation as he travels into rural India, meeting people and seeing in reality the country he had only imagined in his dreams. He finally finds his nanny in a village called Charanpur. She is cared by a young girl named Gita (Gayatri Joshi) who works as a school teacher. As time goes by, Mohan becomes close to her. He also realises how backward his village is due to lack of opportunities for the people. So Mohan takes it upon himself to help the villagers. In return he discovers the warmth and richness in the hearts of these people. At long last, Mohan sees part of India which he has never seen before. Will he have the heart to leave these people behind and go back to America? Director Ashutosh Gowarikar 's Swades is the first Bollywood film to take it's audience from the hot landscapes of Kutch in Gujarat to NASA research centre at Launch Pad 39A of the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The film is about an Indian who leaves his country for a better life abroad but later rediscovers his roots. It portrays the emotional dilemma faced by him as to whether he should stay on or return to America. Musical score is given by A.R.Rahman whilst lyrics is by Javed Akhtar. The film is expected to release this December 2004. Great interest has been shown in this film considering that it's been directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar of the Lagaan fame.
