| This film focuses on Dev Singh, a police officer who believes in carrying out his duties with honesty and integrity. His close friend and associate, Tejinder Khosla (Om Puri) has recently transferred to the Mumbai police branch. Whenever riots break out in the city, he always asks for Dev's help. Even though their friendship goes back 30 years, Tehinder becomes the victim of circumstances which forces him to challenge Dev. The third character in this high tension drama is Farhan Ali (Fardeen Khan), a young lawyer and follower of Gandhi's principles. But when his father is an innocent bystander killed by the police during a shootout with criminals, he decides to take revenge.
Farhan now targets his revenge at Dev. He seeks the help of Latif, a terrorist who trains him to become a killer. But soon the tables turn on him. The only person who can help him out of this mess is Dev, the man he is about to kill. In the midst of all this is Aaliya (Kareena Kapoor), Farhan's love interest. She gets dragged into the world of violence. Director Govind Nihalani has done an excellent job. Even though the film is grim, it does have some touching moments which will remain in your mind. Technically the film is well packaged whether it's the cinematography or editing. This film belongs to Amitabh Bachchan whose performance is always cut above the rest. But then again, Om Puri matches him every step of the way. He is never overshadowed by Mr Bachchan. Young Fardeen finally gets recognised for his talents in Dev. The director has managed to extract the best from this lad. Dev might be a grim film but it's worth watching. Reviewed by Manish Gajjar, BBC Shropshire's Mr Bollywood.
