This film tells the story of a girl by the name of Tehzeeb. Since an early age, she has never seen eye to eye with her mother, Ruksana (Shabana). | Diya Mirza as Nazneen |
Ruksana is a popular playback singer who has always been in the public eye. Her husband’s death few years back made her a suspect but was cleared of murder. This incident has now created a rift between herself and her daughter. Being rebellious, Tehzeeb goes against her mother’s wishes by marrying a writer (Arjun Rampal). The couple decide to live life far away from Tahzeeb's mother. Tehzeeb even takes her mentally retarded sister, Nazneen with them. It’s now five years since Tehzeeb has been married and Ruksana finds her loneliness unbearable. She decides to pay her daughters and son-in-law a visit. Initially all is well but gradually tension begins to mount into their lives. | Urmila gets an author back role in Tehzeeb |
Tehzeeb’s husband is caught having an affair with his publisher whilst a rival playback singer and a journalist decide to revive the murder case, much to Rukhsana’s dismay. Will these problems unite this small family in order to overcome the hurdles that lie ahead? The film Tehzeeb has all the answers. Director Khalid Mohammed is back with his latest offering after his earlier releases, Fiza and Zubeidaa. Both these films have been women orientated. So is Tehzeeb. Former Miss World, Diana Hayden also makes her debut in this film with a brief appearance. She plays a New York-based editor for a publishing company. It is interesting to note that Shabana Azmi and Urmila played the mother-daughter duo in Shekar Kapoor’s Masoom many years back. Its nice to see that this union is now rekindled in Tehzeeb. | The revamped sister of Tehzeeb |
Technically, Tehzeeb will excel in every department. The cinematography is provided by Santosh Sivan who earlier worked on Fiza and Asoka. The sets have been designed by Sarmista Roy of the K3G fame whilst editing is done by Sreekar Roy who worked on Farhan Aktar’s Dil Chahta Hai. Musical score is provide by A R Rehman.
