Whilst coming to terms with her father’s suicide, she is forced to act as a referee to the ever escalating arguments between her mother, Jennifer and her grandmother.

But that is not all she has to cope with.

From getting her crippled brother and adopted sister ready every morning, she also helps her mother to run their financially ailing delicatessen.

She goes through each one of her roles without batting an eyelid.

Each day resigning herself more to what she feels is her destiny, until Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh Khan) enters her life.

Like a breath of fresh air, he moves into their tiny neighborhood and into their lives.

With an honest and friendly nature, Aman lives life for the moment. But Naina hates him to the hilt.

Anticipating her every move, pre-empting her every thought, nothing bothers Aman.

He constantly pushes her to do things that she would never have done. But things that she always dreamt of doing.

Priety Zinta

Gradually, Aman wins her over. He gives her the strength to start living life to the fullest and the courage to fall in love.

The only thing he cannot give her is his love.

Heartbroken and defenceless, Naina decides to go back to her old life. The life she was so used to living.

Aman, however has different plans. Having succeeded in making Naina smile, he refuses to let her slip back into her ordinary, dreary life.

He decides to make her fall in love again. But this time with someone who can love her back.

So onto the scene enters Rohit Patel (Saif Ali Khan), a young executive from Manhattan with an extrovert character.

But deep down, he is a simple guy secretly in love with his classmate, Naina Catherine Kapur. Aman, soon gets to know about this.

So to bring these two friends together, he promises to overcome any hurdles which may arise in order to achieve his goals.

By lying and twisting the truth, he manages to full fill his dream.

But soon his lies become apparent to Naina and a shocking truth is exposed.
