New deal on horizon for current Bollywood strike

UK cinemas gears for bumper openings as producers decide to release their films beginning of June.

A meeting between producers / distributors and multiplexes was held on Tuesday 5th May in Mumbai.

The aim was to discuss film rental charges between cinemas and the Bollywood fraternity but no agreement was reached between the two parties.

The producers are still insisting on a 50% revenue share for their film releases for the movie’s entire cinema run.

But Indian multiplex owners have offered a sliding scale of 50%, 40% and 30% revenue share during the movie’s three week run.

Finding this deal unacceptable, producers and distributors have decided to release their movies in single screen cinemas across Mumbai and other parts of India.

This means that new releases will open in UK cinemas during last week of May or first week of June. A release date calendar is currently being created by Mumbai - based producers.

Bhavna Mistry, Vice President Sales, EROS International confirms that their biggest blockbuster, Kambakkt Ishq is now scheduled for a 26 June release.

EROS's other movie, Love Aaj Kal starring Saif Ali Khan was originally scheduled for 26 June, has now been shifted to 7 August 2009.
