Can Kareena or Priyanka play Chameli?Two of Bollywood's finest actresses are contending for the lead role in Benegal's Chamki Chameli. Latest news coming out of Bollywood is asking whether Priyanka Chopra or Kareena Kapoor will play the lead role in Chamki Chameli. Directed by Shyam Benegal, this lavish musical extravaganza is said to be inspired by Georges Bizet’s 1875 opera, Carmen. The Bollywood version will have a Rajasthani feel to it whilst the musical score will be composed by A R Rahman of the currently released Slumdog Millionaire fame. Chamki Chameli will be shot on a grand scale with lavish costumes and larger than life sets. Shyam Benegal is a renowned Bollywood director whose film, Zubeidaa (2001) starring Kareena’s elder sister, Karisma Kapoor won critical acclaim upon release. His last film, Welcome To Sajjanpur emerged as a surprise hit in 2008 winning critical acclaim all over. Benegal is currently busy with his new project titled Abba Ka Kuan whilst waiting to finalise on the cast and pre-production of Chamki Chameli. Abba Ka Kuan will star Boman Irani, Minissha Lamba, Sammir Dattani, and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. Benegal is said to start filming this February 2009.
