Read his report, then tell us what you think at the bottom of the page. "I recently arranged a paranormal investigation at the Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury after being told by an old friend that he thought it might be haunted. I had no preconceptions of what to expect before I began the investigation as any strange phenomena that has ever occurred at the hotel hasn't been widely reported.
It wasn't until my arrival there that I learnt of ghost sightings in six areas, which I decided were the best places to begin the vigil. Armed with digital and night-vision cameras, our first point of call was the corridor of room 209 where staff have reported an eerie feeling and it is said that a guest once committed suicide in one of the rooms here. The atmosphere of the corridor wasn't particularly welcoming but I stayed to take a few still photos which when checked later showed numerous 'orb' lights. Nobody really understands what these lights are. ![]() The 'orb' in the corridor can be seen bottom right It is said that they could just be dust particles reflecting off the flash light but I have begun to doubt this as they only pick up on the occasional image and no dust had been stirred during our short vigil on this corridor. The first photo shows one of these orbs in the bottom right hand corner. Over the course of the night, more of these strange balls of light were picked up on camera, but only in locations that we were told were haunted. We spent time in the Dickens suite that is positioned in the original 17th century front section of the Lion, where an old style telephone appeared to move of its own accord from where I had set it up as a trigger object. ![]() The 'orb' at full size In the Adam Ballroom; a room that has been graced with the presence of world famous musicians and politicians throughout its history, it is said that a grey lady haunts the balcony. Although we saw no sign of anything in human form, orbs were picked up on the balcony and there seemed to be a lot of footsteps coming from above when I was sat below. The one place that did unnerve me during my stay at the Lion Hotel was the cellar, where several staff have said they have felt uneasy. It is a huge cellar, with several dark passageways leading off in all directions that I investigated by torchlight. Once again, more orbs were caught on camera and I picked up some strange flashing lights on my camcorder in a dark arched room. ![]() Stuart says these indents appeared in the chair When I returned alone to my locked off camera which had been left recording for an hour in the cellar, I was surprised to find that it had stopped recording by itself despite there being 20 minutes of tape left. As I picked up the camcorder I was also startled by a loud bang right behind me but when I turned around, there was no one to be seen… By the time we came to investigate the Tudor bar, where the ghost of a soldier in uniform has been seen by staff and guests, it was getting late and we still hadn't seen any real solid visual evidence of anything paranormal. I walked around taking a few photographs of the bar then left the room to take snapshots in the hotel reception. When I returned to the bar, my partner and I were startled to see indents on a leather stool as if someone had just been sat down on it (see photo) yet no one had left or entered the bar while I was around the area. After taking the photo, the indents began to disappear. Pleased with what we had both witnessed, we headed back to base upstairs and along the way stopped in the hallway outside the Dickens suite to take a few more photos. ![]() Another 'orb' can be seen in front of the stairs We were both sure that something creaked on the stairs in front of us as if someone was walking down and here I caught the clearest orb of the night. This orb is much denser than the others and coincided with some ghostly footsteps on the stairway. Although the visual evidence I gathered on this investigation wasn't as clear as at other locations I have visited, there were enough strange occurrences at The Lion Hotel to warrant another night time vigil in the future…" last updated: 30/04/2008 at 12:11 Have Your SayWhat do you think?
