Marianne met Marcus Carr, a former patient. Just what was their history?

Marcus Carr, a builder working in the boatyard, was shocked when he recognised Marianne in the street. He approached Daniel to find out more, pretending to have a son that might be interested in the centre, and learned that Marianne and Daniel are married. Marcus then visited the health centre where Marianne was shocked to see him and clearly uncomfortable with his reappearance. However, she agreed to go for a quick coffee with Marcus, hoping to get rid of him.

Marianne then met Daniel for lunch who told her about his encounter with Marcus. Marianne changed the subject, but they were soon interrupted by Marcus who it transpired was one of Marianne's patients. He was clearly making Marianne uncomfortable and only leaves when Daniel got serious. Daniel was concerned about this and wanted to know more, but Marianne was defensive. Marcus was just a patient and she said she could not discuss it.

Marcus then ambushed Marianne on her way back to the surgery. Worried that he may become unstable, Marianne agreed to a drink. Their encounter was witnessed by Gina, who now became suspicious. When she later learned from Ruth that Marianne was not answering her phone Gina took action and called the attack information line. Meanwhile Marcus accused Marianne of abandoning him when she ended their sessions suddenly. Why did she do it and why does she pretend there was nothing between them? Marianne protested but eventually admits she had feelings for him. But that was then and she is married now and he had to leave her alone. They returned to Shieldinch and went their separate ways, whereupon Marcus was immediately arrested.

Daniel had also been trying to get hold of Marianne, but when he confronted her she became defensive and avoided telling Daniel about meeting Marcus. However, following Marcus' arrest DI Hall questioned Marianne about him and she was forced to admit in front of Daniel that she saw Marcus that afternoon. Marcus was innocent and the Shieldinch attacker was still at large. After confirming Marcus' alibi, Marianne went with DI Hall to pick him up. Daniel saw them arriving back in Shieldinch together and demanded an explanation. It turns out that they kissed, which was why Marianne stopped the sessions. Back home Marianne was forced to admit that she is excited by violence, but Marcus was just a mistake. Daniel was different. She fell in love with him, not with his actions. Daniel was torn but eventually believed her.

Amber pretended to Innes that she was a songwriter in a bid to impress him. Innes saw right through this but played along with it, inviting her round to the flat that evening. At the same time Nicki was on at Bob to apologise to Charlie for what happened at the party. When he eventually did, Innes invited both Bob and Nicki around to the flat as well. At the gathering Innes forced Amber to read out some of her lyrics, which she had stolen from a Depeche Mode song. Innes then plays the same track on his stereo and Amber was totally humiliated. She fled the embarrassment but Charlie shamed Innes into going after her. Innes apologised and told Amber she didn't have to be something she's not.

Eileen's confidence was taking a battering. The hustings debacle was all over the papers and Alex Judd's photo-shopped poster image was a sharp contrast to her graffiti ridden efforts. Scott persuaded her that the way forward is to go for an 'enhanced' younger, sexier image. Eileen went along with it but she was not happy. Raymond told Eileen that people would vote for her because she cares, not because of what she looks like. This was the support that Eileen needed, but it also made her realise that her new poster image was worth putting up with if it could help her win.
