Sammi was still reeling from the revelation that Marianne's deal with Lydia means she cannot go to the police about the Murdochs' involvement in Ben's death. It was a tough choice for Sammi but she decided she could no longer remain in Sheildinch and booked a one way ticket to be with Ben's parents in New York.

Before she left Sammi vowed to put Marianne and Daniel back together. Encouraged by Malcolm, Daniel made an attempt to win back Marianne. Things didn't go well and her fear made Marianne push Daniel away. Sammi could see her best friend needed help and asked Daniel to try again, he did and this time it worked. Daniel and Marianne vowed to give things another try.

Meanwhile Ewan was distraught by the news that Sammi was leaving town and had a plan to make her stay – a proposal of marriage. Amber and Lydia had huge concerns about Ewan's plan and begged him not to go through with it. In the event they needn't have worried.

Ewan never got a chance to ask for Sammi's hand in marriage. She gave him one more chance to tell the truth about the accident – to tell her who was driving the car. When Ewan didn't divulge his secrets Sammi walked out of Shieldinch and his life for good.

Elsewhere Shieldinch had trouble with the bins and a stand-off with the council over recycling had led to fly tipping. Eileen took it upon herself to take the council to task over their refusal to collect the refuge. Before long she was glad she was so community-spirited for a white knight arrived in the form of local community councillor, Alex Judd.

Alex and Eileen had an immediate rapport and it wasn't long before conversation moved from the problems with the bins to a cosy dinner-a-deux. Eileen and Alex ended the evening with a kiss on her doorstep – could this be the big one for Eileen?

Eileen wasn't the only one with romance on her mind. When an old school pal of Nicki's, Fiona, turned up with car trouble Bob thinks he's pulled. Unfortunately for Bob, when Fiona heard that Deek's the accountant she sniffed a possible cash cow and shifted her affections. Bob was landed with her drunk pal, Cheryl. Ever the gentleman, Bob made sure Cheryl got home okay.

Deek's charms seemed to have an effect on Fiona as she started to realise that maybe there were things more important than a man's wallet. Of course this is Deek we're talking about and the path of true love rarely runs smoothly. Deek's amorous plans are stopped in their tracks as Bob had thrown out Deek's one, out-of-date condom…
