Andy, a handsome and well dressed stranger, arrived in Shieldinch to try and catch up with the ex-girlfriend he met at his school reunion… Ruth! However, his amorous return wasn't exactly welcomed by Ruth. She'd spun him some pretty big lies to make her life sound better and then had to spend all day pretending to live the lies while also trying to get rid of him.

This was no easy task as Ruth was too ashamed to tell her friends and family what she'd done. As a result, Shirley thought he was violent, Ewan thought he was a car thief and Lenny thought he was an undercover cop. Ruth confided in Iona who helped but the lies just got bigger and bigger until Ruth found herself in a very deep hole.

Andy wouldn't take 'no' for an answer and for every lie Ruth came up with, Andy found a counter argument. Eventually she told Gina and Eileen the truth who agreed not to tell Andy as long as she goes out for one last drink with him. A reluctant Ruth agreed but actually had a brilliant night out only for Andy to confess that although he really likes her, they are just not compatible. A high flyer like her would get bored with someone like him! Ruth was left feeling abandoned, unable to admit all the lies she's told.

Lenny was uneasy when he discovered undercover police were launching raids on local gangsters. He wasn't the only one on edge; Lydia forced Amber to face the outside world, Shirley put a brave face on Moda Vida's declining business, Sammi had to come to terms with seeing the Murdochs on a daily basis and Marianne worried about Daniel's whereabouts.

Ewan was frustrated when Lenny was dismissive of a dodgy job idea but Lenny wants to be cautious. It was actually Amber who spoke business sense to her father, suggesting that now would be the time to get into property.

When Lenny mistook Andy for a policeman he realised he's getting jumpy - he is going into legitimate property development. Lenny then announced his plans to a delighted Lydia, a shocked Ewan and a pleased Amber, telling them that from now on, everything he does will be within the law.

Meanwhile, Marianne's problems increased when Sammi said she'd go to the police about Ewan's involvement in Ben's death. Marianne had to convince her best friend to put Daniel's welfare before her own. Sammi was left reeling and though she eventually agreed not to go to the police, she told Marianne she can't live in Shieldinch having to see the Murdochs every day – as soon as she's tied up her business at the surgery, she's leaving.

Daniel then briefly returned home but only to pack some things, he's not coming back, explaining to a shattered Marianne that he's not the man she thinks he is, and never will be.
