The second part of Christmas Day was a one hour special. The Adams family were in a posh country house hotel and when we last saw them Jimmy was trying to propose to Scarlett but the unexpected sight of an Archie Buchanan lookee-likee turned everything upside down. The waiter who Scarlett reckoned was Archie showed no signs of recognition and, try as she might, Scarlett couldn't let it lie. The hotel owner, Rose, was disturbed by it all but assured the Adams' family that the waiter was in fact Douglas and he'd worked for her for years! Scarlett didn't believe her and eventually the family were thrown out.
Back in Shieldinch, the Rossi family reeled from Jo's announcement but it quickly became clear that Ruth was the only one who hadn't a clue about it. And that really got to Ruth, who went on to spend the day trading more and more hurtful insults with Jo. Gina refused to discuss it and tried to continue with a 'normal' Christmas Day but that was shattered when she received a call from Scarlett to tell her she'd seen Archie. Gina rushed out and dragged Eileen away from a promising snog with Liam. They drove to the hotel and were shocked to see Douglas, especially when he claimed not to know them. Rose explained she'd found him, soaking wet and wounded, on the beach a few months ago and she'd taken him in. He had absolutely no memory of his past. She named him Douglas and was determined to protect him from whatever hurt had led to his apparent suicide attempt.
Eileen was convinced it was all an act but Gina was sure his amnesia was genuine. They went back to Shieldinch, having left their contact details with Rose. Eileen became even more incensed when she discovered Jo had told everyone their secret. Meanwhile, Douglas had a heart-to-heart with Rose, discovered what Archie had been up to and decided he had to know more. He snuck out of the hotel and hitched to Shieldinch.
Marty had missed the big family trauma and was only interested in getting fed. Amid the arguments, he headed to the pub and found Zoe, equally fed up with the festivities. He made it clear he wanted sex so they went to Med Dreams. Zoe told him she'd charge him double for Christmas Day, and upped the price when she realised they had no condoms. She was disgusted with herself but gave all the money to Nicki as an extra Christmas present.
Scott spent Christmas Day with Tina and the boys, and everyone had a surprisingly great day! Nicki had a pretty awful day as the Hendersons tried to enjoy their first Christmas without George but she cheered up when she went to see Jamie.
Charlie was raging that her Christmas had been ruined so Bob headed to the pub for some peace. He moaned at Kelly for ages until she dragged him home and knocked some sense into the pair. She's on her own while her man's thousands of miles away so they should make the most of their time together! They made up but were soon interrupted by Jimmy and Scarlett, who'd been fighting since they got home but as soon as they realised each other had been planning to propose, they saw sense too. They rushed round to Charlie and Bob's to announce their engagement and Scarlett came up with a brilliant idea - they could have a double wedding!!
Gerry was a misery guts all day and rejected the expected Christmas treats for cocaine. He annoyed everyone in the pub, nearly came to blows with Raymond, and ended up being thrown out. He got the shock of his life when he spotted Archie Buchanan back in town!
Liz and Malcolm retired home and successfully cheered themselves up with a Christmassy singalong at the piano. Their buoyant mood was interrupted by the doorbell and poor Liz nearly keeled over when she saw Archie on the doorstep... and police cars behind him.
