Iona survived Ruth's attack and was left with nasty bruises. Marty was shocked to see that state she's in but Roisin wouldn't accept his apologies and chucked him out. She was slightly more vocal when Gina turned up later to yell at Iona Roisin told her Ruth should've been taken away by men in white coats. Meanwhile, Ruth was falling apart, finally grieving for her loss and blaming Iona for everything. Bob was delighted to have Charlie back but he wasn't so happy to hear how exciting she'd found her trip to Chicago, especially as that's where Liam's from. The two of them left the pub, uncomfortable seeing Liam there. Mind you, Liam only had eyes for Alanna!
Paul went to his new school but it hit his family hard. Billy provided a shoulder for Tina to cry on as she doubted her parenting skills. Comparing it to Billy's losses, she realised at least she'll see Paul soon. Billy thanked Della for being there for him - without her and Sammy he couldn't have coped. Niamh proved to be relentless when she pretended to be a new neighbour and talked her way into a cosy chat with Liz. Playing the perfect houseguest, she was unperturbed when Archie turned up. She recognised him as "famous in legal circles!" but he wasn't quite so happy to see her. The press started to hound Father Dominic about Michael but he wouldn't give them a story. He's really angry with Michael but Michael's sure that God is there for him - he's lost his calling not his faith.
Time was running for George and the family gathered at his bedside. Deek could barely handle it but it was Alice who got the biggest shock when she overheard Robert make his promise to George never to admit he's her real father. Unaware she'd heard, George told her and Raymond he couldn't have wished for two better children. He told Raymond to look after everyone for him and his last words were to Shirley - he told her he loved her then he quietly passed away
