It was Gina's birthday, so Ruth and Jo planned a lovely day for their mother. Marcus brought some flowers and the offer of dinner, but Gina turned him down to be with her daughters. Hana was pleased to hear from Zara that she had broken up with Bob. However, they were only pretending to have split to stop everyone hassling them about their cultural difference. Zara was secretly wearing her engagement ring on a necklace. Ruth arranged for Marcus to cook a surprise birthday dinner for Gina.

Scott cleared his stuff out of the Blinc Inc office, Heather suggested they went out to drown his sorrows at The Tall Ship. Hana upset Gina by giving her some anti-ageing cream as a birthday present. Deke met Hazel for a chat, but Brian was watching them. Hazel talked about Tommy and how much she misses him. They ended up kissing after Deke revealed that he still cared for Hazel. Jo noticed Brian was upset about something so she tried to talk to him, but he reacted angrily and stormed off.

Gina arrived home from work to find that Marcus had cooked a meal for her. After dinner they shared a romantic dance, then Marcus produced his birthday gift of an expensive necklace. As the evening continued Marcus began to pressure Gina into sleeping with him. Gina asked Marcus to slow things down, but he was indifferent and continued to push her to the bed. He accused her of leading him on, and despite Gina's request to stop, Marcus forced himself on her.
