I would like to see the inclusion of Scotland's only ever World Table Tennis Champion on your site. It is rare for a Scot to gain such an accolade once but to perform that feat twice is remarkable.
Helen Elliot was born in Edinburgh and this remarkable ambassador for Scottish sport won the World Doubles Table Tennis Championships, once partnered with Gizi Farkas and once with Dora Beregi. It was with the latter partner that she accomplished her most notable result when, in Budapest in 1950, against all the odds, they beat the favourites Farkas and Rozeanu to take the title. In all Helen played in four World Championships finals, and managing to win two out of four is a remarkable achievement for a player from a country where table tennis is not considered one of the major sports. Helen now in her seventies, is still actively involved in table tennis today as President of Table Tennis Scotland, a role she takes very seriously. She uses her position as President to take a very active part in all aspects of the development of the sport in Scotland.
