I had the great, if somewhat frustrating pleasure of competing against Elenor. I'd love to contact her while we are still somewhat hale and hearty! Irene McClure (nee Service) now residing in Canada.

To whom it may concern, Firstly let me say that Elonor Gordon did not come from Motherwell, she was from Hamilton and represented the Hamilton Swimming club in ALL her national and international competitions, Secondly she was never coached, other than the odd occassion by David Crabbe. David Crabbe's commitment was to Motherwell Swimming Club, who at that time had a host of champions, not to mention a formidable mens water polo team, Forbes Gentleman beeing a stalwart in that particular outfit, Margaret Girvan, Cathie Gibson were well known and respected National Champions from this famed swim club. Also they boasted the Scottish schoolgirl team champions, consisting of Sadie Duffy, Sadie Lee, Margaret Murray, and they're captain Anne Daly. The latter competed in some events unsuccessfuly against Elonor, who reigned supreme in her own category i,e, Breast Stroke. Hamilton Swimming Club was forever playing second fiddlle to Motherwell, but give credit where it is due, Elonor Gordon ALWAYS put paid to any ambitions that David Crabbe may have entertained in wresting Elonors crown from her head. So lets not take away Hamiltons wee bit of pride in laying claim to being the hometown of Elonor Gordon.
