As one of many who attended the game, I noted in your article that William Mason said what I and all my friends had been saying for years that it was after the game had finished that the tragedy took place. After it finished I had made my way down stairway 13 and waited for my brother and our friends at the foot of the stairway. We left and made our way back to Partick, where we were sitting in the Victoria Bar watching the television when the news came on showing Ibrox Park. We were just shocked and I will never forget our haste in leaving to let everyone know we were o.k. My wife to be arrived at my house (not knowing what had happened) and nearly had her head bitten off by my mother for making a comment which was taken out of context. To this day I cannot believe how lucky we were. After that you really do realise it is only a game and would hope that Colin Stein would know it was not anything to do with his goal that caused it.

I am a survivor of the events that unfolded at Ibrox park on new Years day 1971. i was at the match with a bus load of supporters from Paisley.
i witnessed the crush and was pulled from the stairway onto the grass slope of the stadium, in all the years since the match I have never heard anyone stipulate that Alcohol played its part as football crowds were at that time non-cohesive to the dangers of drunk men. i go to the stadium to this day and in my spirit i pray for the blue noses who never got home from the game.
football stadiums at this time were totally exposed to mayhem and that was the deal the supporter tolerated every week.

I was only a child and recall watching this terrible tragedy on the evening news, even as a 5 year old boy I will never forget the anguish and tears my family had until my dad returned home safely from the game. The article is a timely reminder just how valuable our time on earth is and how easily it can be taken away. It's a pity it took something like this to improve safety within football stadiums.
