Mark and Mark at the oars
What a busy weekend the team had. We've had a look over the tweets and this is how the last few days have gone on board The Ice Boat.
Friday
- WE ARE LEAVING IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. Great build up, boat and crew ready. Off to row through the Arctic.
- Made it 15 miles down the coast. Lots of sea ice around and had a tough time getting out of Resolute Bay yesterday.
Saturday and Sunday
- Light winds and good weather so far. made excellant miles. All getting used to 3hrs on oars 3hrs off... and close living...
- We have safely completed 50 mile crossing of Wellington Channel to Devon Island. Long night rowing 3 hour shifts
- Not much ice in Channel so took direct route. No one slept much since yest morning so few hours rest before carrying on
- Amazing rowing through the night when it never gets dark. The sun slowly dipped near horizon, then rose again. Saw few seals
Monday
- Everyone had great nights sleep after no sleep night before crossing the Wellington Channel
- Heading 18 miles up coast of Devon Island today. Leaving early. wind meant to increase later this afternoon. Big day tomorrow
