In John Buchan's 1925 novel, 'John Macnab', three bored London gentlemen try to spice up their lives by going poaching on Scottish estates. These days the ultimate challenge for would-be hunters is to bag a Macnab which usually means shooting a deer and a brace of grouse, plus catching a salmon all within a 24-hour period.
