If it wasn't for that pesky fly...

12th Aug 2008, Rhiannon

We are finally nearing the end of post production... the programmes have been edited and dubbed and now the only thing left to do, is for the programmes to go through a technical review. This is a process which basically checks that the programme's picture and sound is of broadcast quality and meets all technical standards/requirements. One of our programmes failed as they thought there was a little bit of pixilation on one of the shots - on closer inspection it actually turned out to be a fly buzzing around the interviewee's head! All the progs passed in the end - phew!

After a programme has passed its tech review, clones (or copies) of each programme are made. Master copies are sent to the library and a copy is sent off to Subtitling. I had a copy made with a BITC (burnt in time code) so that I can use it to do the paperwork. We have to record what music we have used, including the record label, publisher, durations etc and what voice over artists we used and their contracts. We also fill out Billings forms - that's where we provide a brief description of the programme you see in Radio Times..and Transmission forms - they are used to inform the Presentation announcer if there are any issues the audience should be aware of - things like 'This programme contains bad language from the start' - well not in ours of course!
