4.30am. Gerald is still ill - I'm fairly sure the early start has nothing to do with it, I could be wrong (sorry Gerald)!
We're back at the Kung Fu school before dawn. JP sets up a lovely locked off shot of the exterior of the girls' dorm and starts the camera rolling for a timelapse sequence. We want to capture the sun coming up and bedroom lights going on before the school starts its 5am exercise classes.
We wait. And wait. And wait. Other lights are going on all around us, but none in the girls' dorm. It's getting light. Music begins blasting out from sirens. All around people in tracksuits are emerging from buildings, including our female Kung Fu students. We ask the girls why they didn't put their lights on - they reply "We get dressed in the dark" - I convince myself it'll still look great - it better - it's meant to be my opening shot...

Dave our soundman is a funny guy. He makes us smile alot, but today at the airport departure lounge he made us all laugh out loud. We were chatting about our favourite television programmes and he started quoting from Little Britain - "computer says no", "I'm the only gay in the village" and "want that one". He'd seen them on DVD and loved it. So, yeah, but no, but yeah, it's true Little Britain is big in China!

Key Dates:
(eng. jargon)
A scene in which the camera position and settings remains the same for the whole shot. Movement might be seen in the shot, but the camera doesn't follow it. Sometimes called a static camera shot.
A technique where something happening slowly - like a sunrise - is photographed only every few seconds/minutes/hours. When the film is played back without the gaps it appears to be really speeded up.
