Mood Board.

Gerald and I have been discussing how the programmes should look and feel.

We talked about a modern, cool look for the urban stories and a warmer, simpler feel for those set in the countryside.

I thought it might be a good idea to show the rest of our team what Gerald and I discussed.

Sometimes it's easier to make a visual representation of what you mean. A feeling or look can be hard to describe in words and because not everyone speaks English I've used some mood boards.

A mood board is a collection of pictures, words or colours that help represent an atmosphere or feel.

I decided to get some inspiration from my local Chinese supermarket where I bought some magazines, stickers and cards. I also looked around an art shop in the city centre and picked some beads, chalk and thread. Finally, I looked out some old travel and fashion magazines I had at home and started cutting things out of the pages that caught my eye - either I liked the colour or subject matter of the pictures.

I stuck everything onto two big bits of cardboard and took some photos to send to our crew and fixer in China. I'll also show them to our graphic designer and editor when they start working with us so everyone has a clear idea what we aiming for.

Mood Boards

Designers use mood or concept boards to convey the overall feel of a project, putting together images and objects which inspire them. Mood boards are very useful at the early stages of a project.
