Hi, I'm Bruce and I'm the researcher on the China project. A big part of my job is to identify for the producer what stories we should tell the audience about China and how we should tell them.
China - where do you begin? It has the biggest population of any country in the world, covers a huge area of land, and seems to be constantly changing. In some ways, this means it is really interesting to work on because of the endless possibilities, but in other ways it's a terrifying prospect because you will only be able to scratch the surface.
I'll write more in another entry about how we decided on what stories to feature because we're still in discussion with people in China about this, but in the meantime let me tell you about more obscure things I found out.

There's a place near Shanghai, in an area called Songjiang, which has been built lots of houses and shops to make it look like a town somewhere in Britain. It's got a red phone box, a Victorian-style church, even a fish and chip shop - all the things you could expect to find in a British town. I've yet to find out if they do Deep-Fried Mars Bars though - perhaps Gerald can introduce them to this Scottish delicacy if they don't!
