Tulliallan (Fife)

Tulliallan is located in Kincardine, a small town located on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in Fife.

Kincardine was at one time a reasonably prosperous minor port. The townscape retains many good examples of Scottish vernacular buildings from the 17th, 18th and early 19th Centuries, although it was greatly altered during the construction of the Kincardine Bridge in 1932-36.

Tulliallan Parish Church was built to replace a previous church which had grown too small for purpose. In 1908 it stood alone with fields around. Now it is in the middle of a housing estate with three huge 1960s high-rise buildings towering over it. Two of the blocks are due for demolition in 2010.

Fife is one of Scotland’s 32 unitary council areas. It lies between the Firth of Tay and the Firth of Forth, and borders Perth and Kinross and Clackmannanshire.

Prior to 1996, the area was governed under a two-tier system, with a local government region divided into three districts – Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and North-East Fife.

Fife is Scotland's third largest local authority area by population. Almost a third of the population live in the three principal towns of Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.
